Our Region | Chalosse
Located in the southern part of the Landes, Chalosse is part of Gascony between Adour and Bearn. It’s known for its undulating landscapes with many streams winding between the hills, prairies, woods and corn fields. Each village’s church, often dating back to the middle ages, stands out from the surrounding architecture.
This region has several sightseeing options involving Nature, Culture, Sports and Gourmet Food. Rugby and basketball are popular here, as well as festivals from April until October, especially major events such as the Course Landaise (cow dodging and leaping) and Corridas.
This is the region which produces culinary riches highlighted by top chefs. This is the area of Chalosse known for its vineyards, Chalosse beef and foie gras.
The Venus of Brassempouy a human face carved from mammoth ivory, was also found in Chalosse and dates back to the Upper Paleolithic period.
On the road between Mont de Marsan and Orthez, a small town’s name originates from the Latin words Fagetum Malum, or Hayet Mau in Romance language which means bad beechwood. It’s also been nicknamed the "Pearl of Chalosse" and the "Green City".
